Born in New Bedford, Steve was the eldest son of Lorraine (Andrade) Correia and the late Albert Correia. After graduating from New Bedford High, he went on to earn his Master’s degree in Marine Biology from SMU/UMass Dartmouth. He turned his love of the ocean into a lifelong career dedicated to protecting marine life as a fisheries biologist for the State of Massachusetts’ Division of Marine Fisheries.
Throughout his life, Steve had a love of reading, listening to music, and learning many different instruments. He enjoyed cycling and spending time with his family and friends. His daughters fondly remember family trips to Mystic Seaport and picnics.
He built a garden in his yard including his prized fig tree. In his retirement, he enjoyed walking throughout town and playing his ukulele in The Zukes and MisFits. He was an active member at Westport Friends Meeting House. Steve loved being a grandfather and his greatest pride and joy were his two grandsons Henry and Charlie.
He is survived by his daughters: Larissa A. Correia of Fairhaven and Aliza B. LeClerc and her husband, John of Peabody; two grandsons, Henry and Charlie LeClerc. He is also survived by his younger siblings, Cynthia Fernandes, David Correia both of New Bedford, Tracy Reed of Acushnet, and Kim Lemieux of Assonet; and many nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late June Elizabeth LeClerc and brother of the late Michelle Theodore.
