Stephen A. Monette, 68, of Fairhaven passed away Monday, July 20, 2015 in St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Burns) Monette who he met at the age of 11, and with whom he would have shared 49 years of marriage this August.
Born in Acushnet, a son of the late Emil and Mae (Valentine) Monette, he was a lifelong area resident. Since his birth, he was a member of the People’s Christian Church where he served on the Board of Directors, was a Lay Preacher and had the Happy Bible Hour Broadcast on WNBH. Steve also went on mission trips with Beulah Baptist Church of North Carolina.
Steve loved his country and was proud to serve in the United States Coast Guard from 1966-1970. He loved fishing, woodworking, the Bruins and the Patriots. One of Steve’s favorite things to do was help anyone that needed him. He retired from UPS. After his retirement, he enjoyed working at Rock & Waring-Sullivan Funeral Homes and River-Side Cemetery.
He loved his Lord and now has gone home with him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Stephen Monette, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Acushnet and Aaron Monette and his wife, Jessica of MI; three grandchildren, Nicole, Sarah, and Samuel; two special cousins, Barbara and Robert; and sister-in-law, Christine Monette of New Bedford.
He was the brother of the late Paul and Alan Monette.
His funeral service will be Friday, July 24, 2015 at 12 noon in the People’s Christian Church, 2240 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Naskatucket Cemetery, Fairhaven.
