Born in New Bedford, son of the late Albert B. and Alvarina (Gracia) Perry, he lived most his life in New Bedford.
Mr. Perry graduated from the New Bedford Vocational School and later served in the United States Coast Guard where he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Coast Guard’s Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Perry worked as a machinist for Revere Copper and Brass Company from 1966 until his retirement in 2005. Robert was very athletic and an avid sports player. He played soccer at New Bedford Vocational and he enjoyed playing baseball where he was a star pitcher. Mr. Perry was a Little League Coach in New Bedford and a NY Giants fan. He was an avid reader and excellent woodworker known for making birdhouses.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Christine Perry and her husband Gerald DeWitt of Fairhaven and Jennifer Perry of Whitinsville; a grandson, Jack R. Begin; niece, Sandra Goode and her husband Lynn of St. Augustine, FL; two aunts, Josephine Leal and Irene Soares both of New Bedford; and several cousins.
His funeral will be Monday, October 6, 2014 at 9 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 78 Spring St., Fairhaven. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours Sunday 2-5 p.m.
