Born in Central Falls, RI a daughter of the late Joseph and Olivia (Silva) Vieira, she grew up in New Bedford before moving to Fairhaven where she lived and worked most of her life.
Many will remember Mary from her store Mary J. Jewelers located on Main Street in North Fairhaven. A warm and positive woman that was also fiercely strong and independent, she loved seeing her family and was always ready for a good party. She thoroughly enjoyed trips to the casino and a nice Southern Comfort Manhattan.

She is survived by her children, Anthony Sobral of Fairhaven, Pamela Sobral of Plymouth, and Claudia Coll and her husband Pierre of Plymouth; beloved daughter-in-law, Kathleen Sobral; five grandchildren, Shana Schoener, Greta Bouley, Tania S. Borges, Ivo Coll, and Maeva Coll; and seven great grandchildren; stepsisters, Madeline Bettencourt, Ann Vieira and the late Oliva Varao; She was the mother of the late Atty. Russell J. Sobral.
Her funeral will be Friday, December 20, 2024 at 9 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Main Street, Fairhaven. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, 274 Main St., Fairhaven.
