John A. Mortell, 74, of Dearborn Heights, MI passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021 after a courageous battle with stage IV brain cancer. He was the beloved husband of Louise (Costanzo) Mortell of Dearborn Heights, MI; Cheryl Mailloux of Dorchester, MA; Melanie Mailloux of West Bloomfield, MI; John Mortell of Dorchester MA; and Elizabeth Mortell of Clearwater FL.; grandfather of Jillian, Batool, Mariam, Jason, Sarah, Zacharias, Jamari, Alexandra; great grandfather of Paige, Kimberly, and Jubilee, brother of Sister Elizabeth Mortell New Orleans, LA; Thomas Mortell Jr. & wife Barbara (Dec) Milton, MA, 3 children Babette, Janel, Melissa; Christina & husband George Roman Wellesley, MA, 3 children Brian, Leida, Derek; Jimmy & wife Marie Mortell Quincy, MA, 3 children Frank, Ed, Debbie; Patricia & Husband Joe (Dec) Ferrera Hanson, MA, 3 kids Donna, Denise and Diane; Marie Mortell South Boston, MA, 3 children Donald, Mark, Paula; Jean (Dec) & husband Peter Yeomans Carver, MA, 3 children Tammy, Jennifer, Peter; Steve Mortell, Clearwater, FL and 2 children Steven & Jarel; Rob Mortell Hull, MA.
Born in Boston, a son of the late Mildred (Morgan) Feno.
John joined in the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam from 1964-1968, Lema 3rd Battalion 27th Marines and 2nd LAAM Battalion, Chu Lai and was experienced combat as an expert rifleman and was exposed to Agent Orange. Known as “Fa” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he was extraordinarily loving and was loved by those who knew him. He had a passion for running and was involved in many marathons over the years, his most recent marathon was last year.
His visitation will be Friday, April 16, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
