Jeannette M. (Gonneville) Demanche, 84, of Fairhaven, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Robert B. Demanche who passed away on September 18, 2024. They shared 54 years of marriage. Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Gerard and Doris (Martin) Gonneville. Mrs. Demanche was a graduate of St. Anthony’s High School and worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone & Telegraph.
Jeannette was an avid New England sports fan, specifically the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins. She and her husband were Bruins season ticket holders and were present (and on their honeymoon) when the Bruins and Bobby Orr won the 1970 Stanley Cup. She enjoyed spending “Small Soda Sundays” with her children and grandchildren watching football and sharing a meal. Her greatest love, however, was spending time with her family and celebrating every moment life had to offer. She could be found at every sporting event and school activity her children and grandchildren were a part of and anxiously anticipated hearing the final result of every Memorial Day/Labor Day music countdown. Jeannette was the glue that held our close-knit family together and we will continue every holiday and “Small Soda” tradition in her honor. Family was her most valued possession and we are better people for having her as the anchor of ours.
She is survived by her daughters, Katherine Correia and husband Paul of Fairhaven and Jennifer Fortin and husband Stephen of Dartmouth; two sons, Robert Demanche and wife Kerrie of Fairhaven and Christopher Demanche and wife Kelly of Dartmouth; a sister, Rita Pothier; four brothers, Alfred, William, Richard and Gerard Gonneville; ten grandchildren, Tyler, Brady and Colby Correia, Shea and Ryan Fortin, Tyler, Breanna, Peyton, Collin and Caiden Demanche; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Corporal Robert Gonneville.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the individuals whose compassion and kindness were unwavering during this difficult time, specifically Marissa from Community Nurse of Fairhaven, Kelly Silva of Hawthorn Medical and the entire staff at Fresenius Dialysis Center. We are forever grateful to all of you.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 8 am- 9:30 am in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am in St. Mary’s Church, 440 Main St., Fairhaven.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jeannette’s name to Community Nurse of Fairhaven.
