Anita L. (Choquette) Dextraze, 70, of Fairhaven, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at home following a long illness. She was the wife of Raymond Dextraze with whom she shared 50+ years of marriage.
Born in Acushnet, daughter of the late Emile Choquette and Hilda (Bousquet) Olsen, she had resided in New Bedford for 40+ years prior to moving to Fairhaven.
Mrs. Dextraze was a graduate of New Bedford High School and received an Associate's degree from Fisher Junior College.
She had worked as a data entry clerk at Sacred Heart Nursing Home for 31 years until her retirement.
A lover of the arts, Anita enjoyed painting, crocheting and making crafts including soap and candles. She enjoyed reading, the outdoors and nature and loved animals especially her cat, Autumn.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Deborah Mercier of New Bedford; a son, Raymond Dextraze Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Westport; grandchildren, Nicole and Ashley Mercier, Doug and Ashley Mongeon; great-grandchild, Kacie Carvalho; a brother, Richard Choquette and his wife Shirley and a sister, Sandra DaSilva all of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Robert Choquette.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 4-8pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Southcoast Hospice and Palliative Care, 200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
