Pat is survived by her children, Richard C. Schwind, Jr, Margaret L. Ward, and John G. Schwind; daughters-in-law Elinor Schwind and Roneta Schwind; son-in-law Timothy Ward; and four beloved grandchildren, Matthew and Haylee Schwind, and Abigail and Evan Ward. Patricia was predeceased by her brother Albert J. Perry of Baltimore, and sister Katherine Burgum of Haverford, PA.
Born in Houston in 1940, Pat was raised in Ruxton, MD. She graduated from the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore in 1958 and had remained close with her classmates ever since. She attended Pine Manor Junior College in Wellesley, MA, and completed her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration at the University of New Hampshire.
In 1963, Pat married Richard C. Schwind of Rumford, ME, and they settled in Hollis. Pat and Richard divorced, and she later married Richard Coughlin of Hollis.
During her forty-seven happy years in Hollis, Pat co-owned LindenTree Antiques, worked as a realtor, and then owned and operated Patricia P. Coughlin Antique & Estate Appraisals. She was active in many town initiatives over the years, including the reconstruction of the Lawrence Barn as a community center. As a trustee for the Congregational Church of Hollis UCC, she focused on investment and insurance matters. Pat was a longtime member of the New Hampshire State Organization of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a patron of the arts and a major supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Nashua, NH.
With an enduring love of the outdoors, Pat was an avid gardener and member of the Hollis Garden Club for many years. She nurtured her gardens over decades, and they were featured on the Hollis Garden Tour multiple times. When she left her Hollis home in 2015, it boasted mature gardens brimming with unique species. Pat treasured spending sunny summer days at Rocky Pond and annually traveled to the coast of Maine. Her passion for antiques—honed over five decades in the antiques business—focused mostly on paintings and antique toys, and she built major collections of both over the years.
Pat’s unique ability to find joy, remain optimistic, enthusiastically support her friends and family, and to light up every room with her trademark brilliant smile will be dearly missed.
Services will be held at a later date at the Hollis Congregational Church and streamed online. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Patricia Coughlin Fund at Beaver Brook Association in Hollis, an organization dedicated to the conservation of natural resources through education and land stewardship.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Gardens at Fair Oaks in Fairfax for their kind and nurturing care of Pat in her final years.
