Maureen “Chickie” (Earley) Fadel passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 27, 2016 at her home in West Falls Center in Sterling, Virginia. Maureen was born on September 18, 1935 in Vahalla, NY to Irish immigrants, Frank and Anne Earley. She grew up with her 3 sisters (Frannie, Anne, Kathleen) and brother (Frank) in Elmsford N.Y., a small town in the Hudson River Valley. Maureen attended Alexander Hamilton High School where she excelled, becoming class president and captain of the cheerleading squad. It was there that she met Richard (Dick) Fadel and began their storybook romance that would last for more than 50 years. Dick was captain of the football team and an All American who went on to attend the U.S. Military Academy. Maureen and Dick married in June 1957 shortly after his graduation from West Point and started their wonderful life together. Maureen accompanied Dick wherever his assignments permitted, including Maryland, Okinawa & Texas, where there 5 children were born, as well as New York, Oklahoma, Kansas, Germany, Pennsylvania and finally Fairfax, VA, where they settled down. Being a mother, wife, class mother, den mother, and having volunteer commitments filled her days until her children were in high school, when Maureen found employment with the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) Agency. During her 18 year career at ATF she rose from Administrative Assistant to Budget Analyst. Maureen retired in 1995 and, along with Dick, enjoyed a full life at their homes in Fairfax and then Burke, VA. They kept busy with a wide social circle developed over their years in government service and enjoyed watching their 5 children (Rick, Bob, Russ, Ed & Pam) grow personally and professionally. Maureen was a great hostess and maintained a yearly July 4th tradition at her home until Dick’s death in 2001. Maureen moved to Falcons Landing Circle in 2009 where she developed a new group friends all sharing the common bond of military service. While Maureen achieved much in her life, she was most proud of her contributions as a wife and mother, and gratified to see these efforts result in 5 successful children and 9 grandchildren. Maureen was a devoted Wife, a caring Mother, proud Nanny, and a loyal Friend. Those that had the good fortune to meet her never forgot her. She will be missed by many. Maureen is survived by her 5 children, their spouses, and 9 grandchildren: Rick & Liz (Anthony and Claire); Bob & Cathe; Russ and Pam (Ariana and Rachel); Ed and Anna (Sydney, Lindsay and Georgia) and Pam (Riley and Jared); and her siblings Anna, Kathleen and Frank. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Richie, her parents Frank and Anne, and her sister Frannie. The visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main St., Fairfax, VA 22030. The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday November 4, 2016 at Our Lady of Hope, 46639 Algonkian Pkwy, Sterling, VA 20165. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to American Heart Association.
