George Philip "Butch" Greschel, 89, met his Heavenly Father and entered into eternal life on Sunday, September 3, 2023. He was a veteran and then went on to teach Industrial Arts at Fairdale High School, where he was loved by all his students. He continued his career at FHS as Athletic Director and 2 state championships were won by the Bulldogs, back to back, while he was AD. He was also instrumental in the King of Bluegrass HS Basketball Tournament. Butch was an active member at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, former member at Fairdale First Baptist Church, and many other organizations. He truly loved Jesus Christ, reading the Bible, his country, and mentoring anyone that would listen, but especially children and youth.
Butch was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Ramona (Johnstone); his parents; 4 brothers; 3 sisters; and multiple family members.
He leaves behind his wife, Merrill (Oakley); sons, Scott (Kim), John Kelly (Robin); step children, Deana Taulbee (Wayne), Doug Oakley (Brandy); grandchildren, Scott Phillip, Heather King, Jacquelyn, Sean, William Bond, Michael Bond, Matthew Bond, Nick Norris, and McKenna Oakley; 13 great grandchildren; several brothers and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews and friends that were loved like family.
Visitation for Butch will be Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm at Fairdale-McDaniel Funeral Home, 411 Fairdale Road, 40118. Visitation will also be at First Baptist Baptist Church, 413 Fairdale Rd 40118, on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 10:00am until the time of his funeral service at 12:00pm. The committal service at Mt. Holly Cemetery will immediately follow.
