It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wanda Jean Ball, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, who left us at the age of 94. Wanda passed away peacefully on December 12th, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Eastern Kentucky, the oldest of nine children, and was a cherished matriarch who touched the lives of many in her lifetime.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings: Charlene, Tom Ed, Homer, and Peggy. She is survived by her siblings: Doris of Centerville, OH, Linda of Melbourne, FL, Danny of Bradenton, FL, and Helen of Murfreesboro, TN. Her family meant the world to her, and she kept close ties with her loved ones throughout her life.
A dedicated mother, Wanda was a guiding force in the lives of her children. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Tom, who passed away in 2022, but leaves behind a legacy of love and care for her children: Larry (wife Bea), Charles, Christine (husband Ed), and Jamey. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Ashley, Jason, and Ellen (children of Tom), Danielle (daughter of Larry), Nicholas (son of Charles), Carl and Diane (children of Christine), and Sophie (daughter of Jamey). Wanda was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were an immense joy to her.
A talented seamstress, Wanda spent much of her life creating beautiful quilts, bridesmaid gowns, and performing alterations for nearly everyone in Fairborn, Ohio. She was known for her incredible skill and the care she put into every piece she made. Wanda had a special gift with plants and flowers—she could make anything grow and flourish, transforming her home into a garden full of vibrant life. She enjoyed birds and feeding them with her many feeders while also putting out special treats for the squirrels every day.
She was a mother not only to her own children, but to many others in her community. Known for her open heart and her generosity, Wanda welcomed people into her life with love, care, and support. Her home was always full of warmth, and she made the best biscuits and gravy that were enjoyed by all who visited. Her two cats were her constant companions, and she treasured the simple pleasures of life.
Wanda was the epitome of grace, strength, and resilience. She had a heart that knew no bounds, and her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched. A memorial service will be held at Burcham Tobias Funeral Home in Fairborn, Ohio on Tuesday, December 17th, with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and the memorial service to follow immediately after. Graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at South Salem Cemetery in South Salem, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Dayton.
She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Wanda. You were loved beyond measure.
