She was born to Yacoub and Aseen Shammas and had three brothers Issa, George and Nichola and lived a humble Orthodox Christian life. She married Bulus A. Mogannam in August 1974 and moved to San Francisco California where she lived before moving to Sacramento in 1997. Bulus and Yolanda traveled to many parts of the world enjoying their 21 years together until he passed away in 1995.
She never had children but enjoyed her step children, her step grand children and being part of the Mogannam family through out the years where many beautiful memories were made and had a lot of dearly cherished experiences. She was loved and respected by her family and will be dearly missed.
The apple of her eye was her nephew Yacoub (Jacob) Shammas. A wonderful young man who cared for his aunt best he could and loved her dearly. She lived to see Yacoub’s son George born which in a way made her life complete.
In her early years after graduating school she continued her education and followed her passion to teach. Juggling taking care of her elderly mother, she worked as a elementary school teacher helping educate and shape young minds. The stories she told of that time with the passion she told them tells you all you need to know of how dear they were to her.
Her Christian faith and love for family were values that she cherished deeply.
Auntie Yolanda, we love you and will be missed for your up beat personality, positive attitude, caring for others and LOVE you had for your family and friends.
May you Rest In Peace as you go and unite with your loved ones in heaven.
