Shirley Moreen Moore

Graveside services for Shirley will be held at 1:00 on August 18 at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Cottage Way Christian Church in Sacramento, California on Saturday August 20 at 11:00. All are invited to attend and celebrate Shirley’s life with her family.

Shirley Moreen Moir Moore was born October 1, 1925 in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. Shirley excelled at school and graduated from high school at 16 years of age. She met David Moore during World War II while he was in the Navy stationed in Australia and they were married on September 22, 1945.

Shortly after their marriage they moved first to San Diego and later to Sacramento where Shirley and David purchased a home on Dale Avenue. Except for a few years spent in Dayton, Ohio for Dave’s work she made her home for 60 years on Dale Avenue.

Grateful for sharing her life are her sons Dennis W. Moore (Sue) of Sacramento and Stephen L. Moore (Julie) of Cheney WA. Shirley had one Granddaughter Amanda (Paul) Wilson of Arlington, Oregon. Shirley also had two great grandchildren, Wyatt Odin Wilson and Hunter David Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Ellen Margaret Moir of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia and two brothers, Leonard and Beris Moir also of Australia. Shirley had extended family in Australia and enjoyed her visits home, traveling to Australia annually as long as she was able.

Shirley was a devoted mother to Dennis and Stephen and dedicated her life to their upbringing. Shirley worked nights for Del Monte Foods for a time to help provide for her sons. She was also devoted to the Lord and her strong Christian faith guided her life. No one who knew Shirley would have any doubt of her Christian beliefs, that she lived her life by the Lord’s word and now rests peacefully with Him

After Dave and Shirley left their home on Dale Avenue, for many years Shirley lived at Campus Commons Independent Living in Sacramento where she had many close friends. Shirley enjoyed participating in all the activities offered and was rarely at home during the day, instead she would recruit her friends at the home to get out and stay active by participating with her in games, exercise, trips for shopping, movies or a show. Up until recently Shirley could be found on one of her several daily walks around the center, stopping to chat with everyone she met.

Shirley will be buried with her husband David at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, California.

The family asks that donations in Shirley’s name be made to Cottage Way Christian Church in Sacramento where Shirley enjoyed attendance for many years.
