Father –Daniel Boyden Cudworth Sr. from Wichita, Kansas at the time was an agent for prudential life insurance.
Mother- Irene Martha Hall-Cudworth from Cooperstown, New York the home of baseball hall of fame.
Les grew up with 5 sisters and 2 brothers, they were, Lois Wittenberg, Georgia Crawford, Ruth Ring, Sunny Davidson, Daniel Boyden Cudworth Jr., Rose Porter Robert Cudworth. The Cudworth family moved quite often because his father kept on being transferred from one town to the next. Hence Les and his little sister Rose and brother Robert went to 26 different schools growing up. It wasn’t easy, Hot Springs, and Albuquerque New Mexico, and Wichita Kansas just to name a few. Les, was in the high school play, the marching band, and Dixieland band. He played clarinet, ukulele, harmonica, was in ROTC which led him into the U.S. Navy.
He was a boiler man on the U.S.S. Algol AKA 54. A cargo attack ship in the Korean war. He also served in the Vietnam, Gulf and Panama wars. 4 different wars, spent a total 35 years in service for our country. He was living in St Joseph Montana where he worked on the CBXQ and Union Pacific Railroads, as a switchman, brakeman, conductor and yardmaster. For 11 years he was an aircraft mechanic on KC-97s in the Missouri Air National Guard. He was married in St. Joseph to Roberta Riener, They had 4 children, Carl David, Carol Anne, Daniel Eugene, and Diane Marie.
He joined the SPEBSQSA barbershop harmony society, in 1956. He sang in many quartets and choruses and twice with the Mormon tabernacle choir. He moved to Sacramento, Ca and was in the Air Force reserve where he was a master sergeant flight engineer, loadmaster and instructor. Returned in 1993 to Travis Air Force base. When in the Air Force reserve he worked on the C-130, C-141 and C- 5 aircrafts. He designed and put together a traveling kit for mobility exercises that they are still using to move cargo with today. He received the “Can-do” award 3 different years, safety man of the year, and many other letters of appreciation etc. He flew to many different countries, Japan, Philippines, Okinawa, and Guam to name a few. Was a member of VFW, Elks, Sacramento Capitolaires, Folsom Harmony Express, Dry Creek Singers, and Society of American Magicians (SAM).
He was the choir director at FBRL for 7 ½ years. He started when his brother Dan was a pastor they sang hymns, cantatas, spirituals and had fun doing it. He worked for the state of California as a clerk, several security companies starting at officer and working up to sergeant and lieutenant. He was always happy and glad to meet new people. Always smiling and had a good word or two for everyone. Had a collection of ties to make you happy. Always had a lot of fun., a soloist, choir director, barbershop quartet singer, husband to Irene and a wonderful person to know. Leslie Eugene Cudworth enriched the lives of all those he came into contact with and we will surely miss him.
