Troy D. Munday, born in Eureka, Kan. on October 17, 1922, went home to be with God on October 17, 2014. He welcomed in his 92 birthday and said goodbye. Troy, his parents and three brothers came west when he was a child. They settled in Winthrop, Wash. where the boys attended school, all graduating from Winthrop High School. All four boys served in World War II and all returned home safely. Troy served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945, seeing service in Europe, North Africa and the Rock of Gibraltar. After returning from the service he held a variety of jobs until hiring on with the Great Northern Railway in 1950, where he worked as a Brakeman for 33 years, retiring in September of 1983. In 1955, Troy met Ernalee Firth and they married in 1956. Wanting to get back to the farm life he grew up with, Troy moved his family to Marysville, Wash. in 1965 where they did a little farming while Troy continued his job at the railroad. He enjoyed his job and especially looked forward to the annual Old Timers Picnic in Skykomish, Wash. each summer. Two years in a row he won the prize for being the oldest member present. Troy also loved the outdoors and was known to spend hours with a fishing pole in his hand. Fall also found him hunting the mountains of the Twisp and Winthrop areas in search for the elusive deer, most times being successful. The children enjoyed camping and fishing trips to many lakes in Washington and British Columbia, always coming home with lots of stories to tell from each adventure. Troy was a man of few words, but his family felt his love in the life lessons he shared. He was deeply loved and will be forever missed. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ernalee; children, Kim, Vicki, and Tory; grandchildren, Clay, Ashley, Mike and Ray; and by great grandchildren, Jayde, Levi, Nolan, Kitra and Tyler. A celebration of his life will be Friday, October 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home & Cemetery, www.evergreen-fh.com, 4504 Broadway Ave. Everett, WA, with a committal service and Military Honors to follow. A reception to be held at the same location, following Troy's services. Donations may be made to Cancer Partners at 1717 – 13th St. Everett, WA.
