Our dear mother Remedios Borbe Buban of Everett, Washington passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023 after a brief illness. She was 86 years old. Remedios was born in Diaro, Malinao, Albay, Philippines to Bonifacio Borbe and Celestina Montenula. Remedios was predeceased by her son Jose, by her daughter Eden, and grandson Jeff. She is survived by 5 children Vilma, Vicenta Delia “Beth,” Percival, Marietta, and Myrna, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and by her sisters, Erinea and Lorinza. Remedios was the proud mother of 5 children. Remedios’ greatest love was her family. Remedios leaves nothing behind but beautiful memories.
Remedios married the late Juanito Celestial Buban in 1955 and happily married for 35 years. Mom and Dad worked tirelessly to provide better future for their children. Remedios never remarried after the death of her husband Juanito, and Mom immigrated to the US in year 2001. Remedios always provided support and love for her family.
Though Mom had no higher education, Mom was very smart woman and was able to make intelligent decisions that guided her children. Mom enjoyed doing her routine dancing exercise every morning and her favorite music exercise was “Pag gising sa umaga (Waking up in the morning)” and walking the dog. Mom was health conscious. She enjoyed preparing her favorite Bicol dishes “sinasa and tinubigan.” Her favorite American soup was clam chowder from Ivar’s. Most of all, Mom enjoyed facetime with friends and especially with our family in Australia, Canada, Japan, and Philippines. Mom called my family several times a day, and sometimes she hid in the closet during wee hours so as not to disturb anyone. Mom enjoyed watching YouTube, listening to Tulfo radio station. On top of that, Mom enjoyed watching the family in the Philippines through CCTV, and Beth would jokingly say that she was the 24/7 guard in the Philippines.
Remedios was called by all her grandchildren “Mama Medjing” and known to her friends in the US as Remy, Nanay (mom), and May (auntie). In the Philippines, she was Tia Medjing. And all her children and were proud to call her mom and Mama Medjing.
As her health declined, Remedios often repeated the quote: “I am very fortunate with my children and grandchildren.” Remedios was exemplary mother of all times.
Beth invites you to join her for the celebration of Remedios life which will be held on (date and time TBD) at the 4031 Kromer Ave, Everett WA 98201.
