Born February 17, 1944 in Adrian Michigan to Lemuel T And Dorothy Mae Haney.
Eileen, her mother and 3 siblings moved from Michigan to Everett WA when she was 2 years old.
Eileen attended Everett schools, including being among the first class to attend Hawthorne Elementary school in Everett, graduating from Everett High School, June 8, 1962.
On June 15, 1962 she married Harold Wayne Spurrier.
Harold was in the Air Force and their first year of marriage was spent in Spokane WA, moving to Marysville WA in 1966.
The marriage bore 3 wonderful children: Wayne (Melanie) Spurrier in 1964, Carol (Kevin) Miller in 1966, and Dennis Spurrier in 1970.
Eileen stayed home with the children and volunteered as a Camp Fire leader and at all the Marysville grade schools, including the special needs departments. Later she volunteered at the Red Cross office and did respite care for Snohomish County Hospice.
Eileen enjoyed bowling in 2 women’s leagues in Marysville and was awarded most improved in both leagues.
Eileen worked as an Avon sales lady and waitress and in 1983, Eileen went to work for Snohomish County Physicians where she hand processed claims until 1991. In January 1992 she went to work for Premera Blue Cross in Mountlake Terrace, retiring from there in October, 2006.
Eileen met Gene Peterson in 1995 and they were married on Gene’s birthday, 10/3/99, at Snoqualmie Falls despite his recent cancer diagnosis. They were very much in love. Eileen lost her sweet Gene to cancer on January 26, 2006, but she was able to care for him at home until the end.
In 2007 Eileen sold her home in Lake Stevens and moved to Bremerton WA to be closer to her daughter and be able to enjoy her ever growing grandsons.
Eileen loved to quilt and made many blankets that were donated to nursing homes, the homeless population and even sent overseas. Eileen’s sewing talents were put to good use while she volunteered with the Bremerton Community Theater making the costumes for many of the Junior actor’s performances. Every year she would make dozens of sets of pajamas that were donated to the Kitsap Foster program, as well as working with CASA to provide buddy bags for transitioning children. She knitted hundreds of hats that were spread all over Kitsap county and beyond, including many going to the Juvenile Detention Center.
Eileen continued to find ways to use her talents by making paracord bracelets, cold wraps and face covers that were sent to troops overseas through Operation Gratitude.
Eileen volunteered her time at Silverdale’s Bloodworks program and spent years volunteering at her grandsons’ elementary school, Brownsville Elementary, where she was known as Grandma P.
Eileen was a 60 year cancer survivor being declared cancer free in 1964.
