Steve worked at Inland Container for more than 35 years and after retirement at Menards. He was a very hard worker and was a wonderful caregiver for his wife, Kathy. Steve was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and a member of the Methodist Temple. Steve was in track and field at Bosse High School where he graduated in 1967.
What brought him the most joy was his family. He and his wife lived for going to their kids and grandkids sporting events and school functions. He loved watching IU basketball, Notre Dame football, and sitting on his back porch enjoying a beer and a talk. He was also a lover of all animals and adored his cocker spaniel, Millie, and his cat, Oscar. He was a loving father and dedicated to his family.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen R. West; parents, Juanita K. West (Brown) and Paul “Ted” West and sister, Patricia “Tish” Stroud.
He is survived by his daughter, Beth Ann Ivie (Sam); son, Todd W. Smith (Julie); daughter, Dana R. Colangelo (Matt); grandchildren, Madelyn E. Ivie, Caroline F. Ivie, Juliana P. Smith, Mason A. Troutman, Isaac E. Troutman, Zachary P. Colangelo, and Tyler M. Colangelo; sisters, Roxye Modlin, Stacy Sansing, and Kim West; brothers, Terry West and Trey West; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, officiate by Pastor Randy Moore, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
