She was a graduate of the Reitz High School class of 1948 and attended Evansville College. She was a real estate ad writer for Emge Realty, a photo journalist for the Northside Reporter, and author of two books: Darmstadt the Little Town That Could and Thoughts While Waiting in the Doctor’s Office. She was a charter member of the Producers-A Home Demonstration Club and Aqua Maids, a volleyball coach, accomplished swimmer and certified water safety instructor, and enjoyed photography, tennis, racquetball and golf.
Shirley is preceded in death by parents, Elmos “Speedy” and Eloise Whitledge; sister, Pamela Valiant, and brother, Jim Whitledge.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Nicholson; son, Rex Nicholson; daughter, Leslie (Larry) Flittner, and granddaughters, Samantha Ellen Rainey and Andi Jean Flittner.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday February 11, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church Darmstadt, 1401 W. Boonville-New Harmony Road, officiated by Pastor Stan Temme, with burial in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery Darmstadt. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road and Thursday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
