Shirley Epple, 87, of Evansville, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023. She was born on December 29, 1935 in Evansville to the late Lee and Annabelle (Raymond) Epple.
She was a member of St. Benedict’s Cathedral. Shirley graduated from Memorial High School in 1954. She worked at St. Mary’s Medical Center in the Dietary Department.
Shirley made a Cursillo in 1984, and she was President of the Legion of Mary from 1994 to 1997. She was a former member of the Evansville Outing Club. She liked watching sports and reading. She recently started writing poetry for family and friends, which she had not done for many years.
Shirley had a devout prayer life, and prayed for many, many people for over thirty years. She enjoyed getting and giving hugs from family and friends, especially her friends at the nursing home.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Roseanne Epple and her half-brother, Walter Breidenbach.
Shirley is survived by nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at St. Benedict’s Cathedral officiated by Very Reverend Alex Zenthoefer. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel and on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
