Robert (Ron) Harmon left this earth for a better place on September 13, 2023. Ron is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty (Biggerstaff), son Greg (Elizabeth), daughter Kris Harmon Kerr (Rex), sisters Dolores McCray, Linda Copeland (Frank), grandchildren Nolan Harmon, Neil Harmon, Jessica Barton, Amy Brown, and Amanda Bland, great grandchildren Brooklynn, Dakota, and Michael as well as many wonderful in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mildred Harmon.
Ron was a loving husband, dad, and “papoo” and enjoyed family events. While a private man, he sported a quiet smile and carried a strong presence, making himself available to help family, friends, neighbors, and strangers without question and on short notice. He was a 60 year season ticket holder for the F.J. Reitz Football team, cheering on the mighty Panthers amid lifelong friends. Ron was a skilled handy-man and master welder, having retired from Local 20 after laying beads for nearly 40 years.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN, officiated by Rev. Michael Erwin followed by burial at Alexander Memorial Park.
Friends and family may visit at the funeral home on Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m. and Monday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SAWS (Servants At Work Serving) care of St. Peter’s UCC 7014 Darmstadt Road.
