Malinda Ann Compton

Malinda Ann Compton, 73, of Evansville, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. Malinda was born in Rockport, Indiana on July 31, 1950 to the late Harvey Purcell, Sr. and Eva B. (Norris) Purcell. At a young age, Malinda became a faithful member of Smithfield Baptist Church in Rockport where she was an usher and sang in the choir. She later attended Fairlawn United Methodist Church. Malinda worked for Kmart and Zenith. She worked at Sears from which she retired after 32 years. Malinda, a South Spencer High School graduate, enjoyed caregiving for multiple plants, trying out different restaurants, and watching her family live and grow. Malinda is preceded in death by her husband Raymond Compton; sister’s Barbara Jean Purcell, Nel Winstead, and Eloise Woods; and granddaughter, Destiny Compton. She is survived by her sons: Keith (Melissa) Compton, Chris (Sara) Compton; daughter Wendy (Gerry) Compton; granddaughters Ma-Haley, Raylee, Kennedee, and Harmonee Compton; grandson Morris Compton; great granddaughter Marceline Compton; great grandson Malik Compton; sister Gloria Bryant (Fred) of Evansville; brothers Thomas Purcell of Evansville, Harvey Purcell (Shirley) of Evansville, and Walter Purcell (Janice) of Crown Point; several nieces and nephews; and eight step brothers and sisters. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Reverend Roger Duncan with entombment at Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit 11 a.m. until service time.
