 Obituario de Linda Gayle Green
Linda Gayle Green went to be with the Lord on February 18, 2023 after three years of courageously fighting cancer. She was born on January 24, 1947. Mrs. Green was a graduate of Central High School, Class of ‘65 and attended USI, a 20 year member of First Avenue Presbyterian Church, Linda was an elder, and spearheaded the construction of the new First Avenue Presbyterian Sunday school building, 31 years at Olivet Presbyterian in Evansville, IN., where she also served as deacon. Before her 10 years working for EVSC as a bus aid, Linda was very involved in the community; leading Cub Scouts as a den mother, leading Brownies as a troop leader, volunteering her time and skills at camp Pyoca as camp counselor and retreat director, teaching children in Sunday school and serving as deacon for Olivet where her love for mission work flourished. She led several mission trips to Mexico to build homes for refugees through Futuro del Oro Kinder. She also spearheaded many trips to Joplin, MO for tornado disaster relief. She also organized a quilting bee where she and other Olivet volunteers made quilt kits for students at EPCC, was a representative with Neighborhood Ministries, as well as many other acts of selflessness and compassion. Linda was kind and gentle, always had a contagious smile and made friends everywhere she went. You may have been life long friends, or the person fortunate enough to have met Linda for a single day- but she probably gave you a penny with a cross punched through it. She would have placed it in your palm, closed your hand over it, then her hand over your hand and said, “When life makes no cents (sense), Jesus does”, and in either case, your life has been made richer for having known her, just as having known and ministered to us has fulfilled our lives. She enjoyed sewing, baking, painting, gardening, birdwatching, IU basketball, trivia, and time with friends and family. She was an avid fan of John Denver and especially Elvis Pressley. She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Gerald (Jerry); son Andy Green (Aimee); daughter Melanie Leggett (Tom); brother-in-law Tommy Wardrip; and four grandchildren, Nick Shelton (Mariana) of Virgina, Ashley Bergwitz, and Laura and Emily Green. Linda was preceded in death by her parents May and Stanley Ramberger, sister, Carolyn Schaefer, brother Robert Hales, and sister Norma Wardrip. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Alexander West Chapel, Pastor Dave Mills officiating, followed by entombment at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the charity of your choosing in the same spirit of kindness and generosity as our beloved Linda. Condolences may be offered at www.AlexanderWestChapel.com.
