Leroy J. Schmitt

He was a Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of the Evansville Eagles, VFW, Lions Club and the American Legion. Leroy retired from Bucyrus-Erie as a machinist and from farming. He enjoyed playing ball.

Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Eline N. (Burton) Schmitt; sons, James and Leroy Schmitt, Jr.; brothers, Harvey, Norman, Earl, Cletus and Ervin Schmitt; sister, Lorene Hoppe; and parents.

He is survived by his daughters, Doris J. Price of Stendal, IN and Alice (Steve) Burkhart of Francisco, IN; son, Paul (Barbara) Schmitt of Oakland City; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:00 PM Monday, March 24, 2014, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Matt Malin, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
