Lena Settles

Lena M. Settles, 95, of Evansville, IN passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the Villages of Oak Ridge in Washington, IN. Lena was born November 28, 1925 to the late Luther Marshall and Jewel Mae (Walker) Hughes of Crittenden County, KY.

Lena grew up on a farm where she learned the values of hard work and discipline. After she and Neil moved to Evansville she attended beauty school and became a beautician. Lena worked at Deaconess Hospital Beauty Salon, later opening her own salon. She and her husband Neil were avid bowlers, golfers, and enjoyed traveling together and with friends. Spending precious time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren was always very important to them. Lena enjoyed volunteering at her church, especially during fall festival making kuchens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Neil” Settles; parents; and sister, Ima Wildy.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Richard) Sapp of Washington, IN; son, Tony (Mary Ann) Settles of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Jay (Lisa) Sapp of Flowery Branch, GA, Brian (Laura) Sapp of Noblesville, IN, Scott (Carly) Settles of Newburgh, IN, Matt (April) Settles of Lyons, IN; and great grandchildren, Dylan Sapp of Athens, GA, Kailey Sapp of Flowery Branch, GA, Molly and Maddy Settles, of Lyons, IN, Marshall and Griffin Settles of Newburgh, IN.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. CST on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Alexander North Chapel with final resting place at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. CST until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
