Lea Ann (Goldie Klein) Dowd passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Born April 12, 1918 in Evansville to John and Nancy Klein, she lived an incredible 99 years.
Lea Ann was the true example of a passionate, hard-working and fun-loving soul who lived independently and even drove until one month after her 99th birthday. She became a hairdresser at the age of 18 and soon clientele were asking to have their hair done by the "pretty shoes girl". Lea Ann established Klein's Hair Fashions on Governor St and then moved it to Lawndale in the mid 1950's. Klein's was the premier beauty shop in Evansville for many years at one time employing 28 staff. She always kept up with the times and was beyond her learning in running her business. She played golf in the women's Sunshine league at Thunderbolt Pass Golf Course well into her 90's. Near and dear to her heart in her later years were Thursday "girl's get together" and a card game at Thunderbolt.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Charles W. Dowd Jr. , her stepson, Charles W. Dowd III and her sisters, Valada Schnable and Hazel Klein.
She is survived by a step-son, Thomas P Dowd of Evansville, and step-daughter, Cheryl (Dr. Charles) Jordan of Geneva, New York, dear friend Laurie Dowd and six step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Alexander Memorial Park, 2200 Mesker Park Drive, Evansville IN 47720. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until service time at the cemetery.
