Kathi D. “Kate” Small, 72, of Evansville, IN passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024 with her family by her side. She was born on May 29, 1952 in Niles, MI. Kathi retired from Mount Vernon School District after 27 years, with most of her time spent at Marrs Elementary School. She always had a smile on her face when her students and parents came to school. Kathi enjoyed riding horses, quilting and spending summers in Montana with her family and friends. She loved her dog, Maci Jo. Kathi was a very generous, outgoing person and never met a stranger. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jacqueline DeMunck; brother, Steve DeMunck; and sister, Krissi Games. Kathi is survived by her husband of 28 years, Michael Small; mother-in-law, Sarah Small; daughter, Stephanie Russell (Darrel); son, Brandon Smith (Samantha); grandchildren, Kati Russell, MaKenna Duffy (Richard), Kale Smith, Kinady Smith; great-granddaughter, Ellie Grace King; brothers, Mike DeMunck (Diane) and John DeMunck; sisters, Sherrie DeVoe and Tracee Vining; nieces and nephews and many close friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation by visiting www.themmrf.org. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN officiated by Pastor Bruce Burklow. Burial will be held at Alexander Memorial Park. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
