Eddie served in the US Army as a tank commander. He started at Western Electric (now Nokia) in 1968 as a switch tech and retired from Nokia. After retirement he worked at ATT Wireless and Sprint Wireless. He also worked for Alexander Funeral Homes. Eddie was an avid Indiana University fan and enjoyed coaching his kid’s sporting activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Oliver “Ollie” Dill (2019); and sister, Debbie Martin.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charlene (Nelson) Martin; sons, Chris Martin and Daniel Martin (Stephanie Stallins); and daughter, Jamie Dill (Andrew); grandchildren, Shelby Smithler (Matt), Andrew Martin, Lillian Martin, Blaine Underwood, and Owen Dill; great granddaughter, Anniston Smithler; sisters and brothers, Tom Martin, Scott Martin (Charmaine), Lesa Scott, Richard Martin, Barry Martin, and Barbie Fowler (Frank Hooper); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, officiated by Ken Mitz. Burial will be held at Alexander Memorial Park where full military honors will be conducted by the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club. Family and friends may visit on Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 until service time at the funeral home.
