He graduated from Central High School then went on to graduate from Indiana University with a degree in business. On July 2, 1966 he married his high school sweetheart Jone Miller. They were married 58 amazing years. They enjoyed traveling locally to antique shops, faithfully attending church together, and going to dinner with their friends or daughters. Paul enjoyed bird hunting with his lifelong friend, Charlie, and his beloved hunting dogs. He had a love for all animals, especially his 2 dogs and cat.
Paul was not only an amazing husband, but father and grandfather. In his free time you could find him at one of his 11 grandchildren's sporting events, especially his favorite Friday night football. He has loved watching his grandsons, Cameron, Colin, and Max play football and wrestle. Although he loved football the most, you can bet he was at the other events with a popcorn in hand ready to watch his granddaughters, Maggie, Livie, Maddie, Corinne, Laney, Lena, Lucy and Maci. He recently became a great-grandfather to Reese, who brought him absolute joy. He is most proud of his grandchildren and would brag to anyone who would listen.
Paul loved spending time with his two sons, Paul and Jacob, doing stuff around the farm and spending Saturday mornings at the local Depot Diner. He was a great girl dad to his three daughters. He always showered them with unconditional love and support. He was a man of immense humor and wisdom, and cherished moments with his family.
Survivors include his wife Jone; two sons, Paul (Jackie) Maier of Griffin, IN, Jacob (Alicia) Maier of Poseyville, IN, 3 daughters, Emily (Brian) Stevens of Haubstadt, IN, Anne (Ryan) Scherer of Haubstadt, IN, and Molly Maier from Fishers, IN. Grandchildren include Maggie (Hank) Hasler, Cameron (Kennedy) Maier, and Madeline Maier, Livie and Lena Maier, Corinne, Max, and Maci Stevens, Colin, Laney, and Lucy Scherer. One great grandchild, Reese Hasler. And his beloved pets, Elsie, Bella, and Petey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Frances Maier, in-laws, Gordon and Doris Miller and sister-in-law, Peggy Stallings.
We will forever relive our memories with our father and are going to miss him so much. His decency, sincerity, and kind heart will stay with us forever. The family cannot thank our community, church family, and all of their amazing friends for their love and support.
