George Richard Murphy, 95, of Evansville, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Braun Nursing Home. He was born on June 19, 1927, in Poseyville, Indiana to the late Stanton and Blanche (Beloat) Murphy.
George devoted his life to his faith. He loved fishing, woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family. He was a past member of First Christian Church and current member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. George served in the Air Force as an occupational force of Okinawa in World War II. He retired from SIGECO as a maintenance worker.
George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine Murphy; and all his siblings.
He is survived by his children, Diana Scherer (Ralph), Michael Murphy (Ravonda), Pat Murphy (Kay), and Peggy Mahrenholz (Dwayne); grandchildren, Jennifer Hall (Todd), Randy Scherer (Mandy), Devin Doherty (Matt), Tim Murphy (Ashley), Nicholas Murphy (Cassandra), Nathan Murphy, Megan Perry (Jarred), and Matt Mahrenholz; and great grandchildren, Griffin, Lucy, and Grant Hall, Andrew and Daniel Scherer, Eleanor Doherty, Wright Murphy, Fisher and Sullivan Perry, and Colt Mahrenholz.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Alexander Funeral Home – West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, followed by burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
