Evelyn K. Beck, 93, of Evansville, went home peacefully with family by her side Tuesday morning, October 21, 2014 at Good Samaritan Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, who passed away in 2008. Born Evelyn Kelley, in Savah, Indiana, outside of Mt. Vernon, to Fannie and Dewey Kelley, she graduated in 1939 from Mt. Vernon High School. She then attended and graduated from the Central Beauty College in Indianapolis, and returned to Mt. Vernon to pursue a career in hair dressing. During World War II, she was a mail courier for the Evansville Shipyards where LSTs were built for the U.S. Navy. She was also employed in the Mt. Vernon office of Indiana Bell Telephone as a telephone operator. Evelyn and her husband attended and were members of Methodist Temple United Methodist Church and were former members of First United Methodist Church (Tarpon Springs, FL), St. James West United Methodist Church, Howell General Baptist Church and Mt. Vernon (IN) General Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, and golfing, particularly her two holes-in-one at the Howell Park Par Three Golf Course. She was especially proud of the over 1000 hours of service she volunteered as a Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary Pink Lady. Surviving are two sons, Charles A. Beck, Jr. (Sue Chandler-Beck) of Evansville and Paul A. Beck (Kim) of Flower Mound, TX; brother, Dewey Kelley (Shirley) of Evansville; six grandchildren, Andrew K. Beck (Sarah), Christopher P. Beck (Elizabeth Davis), Staci Ridgway (Todd), Kristina Cunningham (Brad), Melissa Summers (Jason), and Patricia Lyn McIntosh (Robert); seven great grandsons, Ian Ridgway, Caleb, Colton, and Caden Summers, Dylan Cunningham, Beck McIntosh, and Wyatt Beck; and great granddaughter, Olivia Beck. The family wishes to especially thank all her caregivers at Good Samaritan Home Pathways Two for their compassionate and loving care. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Alexander North Chapel, with Rev. Terry Gamblin officiating and entombment following in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Home, 601 N. Boeke Rd., Evansville, IN 47711.
