Eula "Irene" Jones Walthall

Eula Irene Walthall, 100, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at River Pointe Health Campus. She was born September 9, 1916, in Christian County, KY to the late Harvey and Vera Forbes Jones. She married Charles Joseph Walthall on October 2, 1939. She worked at the garment factory in Evansville at an early age with her mother. Irene was employed at Servel for nine years and then was a welder at the shipyards during WWII. She later owned and operated The Beacon Inn Restaurant for 12 years. Irene was a lifelong member of East Side Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school and was an Elder Emeritus. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved to cook. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Rose Arlene Jones, Herschel Gilbert Jones, and Thurston “Mac” Eugene Jones. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Gerald (Linda), Tim (Karen), and Tom (Mary Jo) Walthall; grandchildren, Adam Walthall, Amy Walthall O’Stander, Alison Walthall Jefferson, Jeremy Walthall, Lee Ann Walthall Lobue, Schawn Walthall, and Stephen Hampton; great-grandchildren, Joe and Jack Walthall, Henry, Oliver, Edith and Agnes Jefferson, Liam and Lily Walthall, Christopher and Andrew Lobue, Luke Walthall, and Ethan, Ella and Elizabeth Hampton; and nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 22, 2016, at East Side Christian Church, 2001 Bayard Park Drive, officiated by Dr. Linda Parker, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, and Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
