He was a longtime member of Eastside Christian Church, where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a member of Daylight Masonic Lodge #752, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1995, Evansville Valley Scottish Rite and Hadi Temple Shrine. Charles had worked at Whirlpool for over 20 years, where he served as Supervisor of the Maintenance and Tool Departments. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid woodworker and antique restorer.
Charles was able to stay in his home, with the care of his granddaughter, Lora, her husband, Jason, and great-grandsons, Jason Jr. and Jacob.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Symonds.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Arlene K. Symonds-Paul; granddaughters, Leesa Young (Cy) and Lora Brown (Jason); great-grandchildren, Jason, Samantha, Jacob and Cy; sister, Kathryne Brown; nieces and nephews; and longtime friend and neighbor, Connie Arbeiter Nicholls.
Services were held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Randy Bechtel, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends visited Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7:00 PM, at the funeral home.
