Carl Edward Rutledge

Carl Edward Rutledge, 89, of Evansville, IN passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born in Evansville, IN on December 17, 1934 to Fred Rutledge and Elsie (Koring) Rutledge. Carl graduated from Reitz High School, class of 1953. He first worked as a plumber for his father. Carl and his brother Fred then started building homes together. They built many homes on Evansville’s West Side. He loved his profession, usually working six days a week. Carl helped his family in many ways, especially anything involving homes. He had a quiet, humble and generous spirit always putting his family first. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marilou (Horny) Rutledge; infant daughter, Ann Louise; parents, Fred and Elise Rutledge; sisters, Betty Hall and Doris Boswell; brother, Fred Rutledge, Jr.; and sister, Romaine Armstrong. Carl is survived by his son, Mark E. Rutledge (Julie); granddaughters, Mallory Dierlam (Jeff) and Jourdan Bean (Keith); great-grandchildren, Will Dierlam, Norah Dierlam, Lucy Dierlam, Jaycee Bean, Molly Swedenburg, Sydney Bean and Wesley Bean. Memorial contributions may made in Carl’s memory to Howell General Baptist Food Bank, 1520 Delmar Ave., Evansville, IN 47712. A private family service will be held.
