Joseph William Brooks Saccoman

Joe was born as Joseph W. Brooks on January 18, 1955, to Joseph W.

Brooks and Patricia Linden Brooks, in San Diego, California. Joe passed

away in San Diego on May 30, 2024.

Joe graduated from Point Loma High School in San Diego in 1973. He

graduated from San Diego State University and later received his

chiropractic degree from Life Chiropractic West in Hayward, California.

Joe had a lifelong passion for photography. He worked with the renowned

author and photographer Robert Vavra during several photographic

safaris in Africa, during the last of which Vavra’s team was cornered and

attacked by a Cape Buffalo. Joe was gravely injured in the attack. After

surviving that experience, Joe decided to go to chiropractic school to

become a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine.

Earlier, in 1974, at the age of 19, Joe met Yvonne Roberts, who was 18 at

the time. They dated briefly but then their lives went in separate directions

for the next 22 years. They eventually reconnected and were married on

January 22, 1997.

Joe practiced chiropractic until he was diagnosed with stage IV cancer

in 2019. Joe & Yvonne were living in Carson City, Nevada, at the time,

but moved back to San Diego in 2021.

Joe is survived by his wife, Yvonne Roberts-Saccoman, his daughter

Grae Saccoman, his sister Melinda Bergman, his brothers John

Saccoman, Jared Brooks and Peter Brooks, his stepsisters Mary-Nona

Hudson and Pamela Matheson, his aunts Josephine Hayes and Melissa

Buckeye, his uncle John Linden, his stepdaughters Alisha Siu and Kristin

Woerner, his stepson Nathan Mosher, as well as 7 grandchildren.
