Jose is survived by his wife, soulmate, bestfriend, life partner of 24 years, and love of his life, Gloria Bayardo Cruz; his goldendoodles, family, friends, and MUTC brothers. Despite Jose’s trials and tribulations throughout his life, he was a wonderful man with a positive outlook, full of life and joy, his presence and infectious smile could brighten any room. He was witty and loved to make people laugh. He could make light of any situation with his humor, jokes, and pranks. He will be sorely missed but will live on in our hearts and memories.
Jose had been battling Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer since 2020, but he did not let it define him. Having previously won his battle after being diagnosed with Stage 3 Testicular Cancer in 2008, he wasn’t afraid to fight the good fight. He fought with tremendous strength, courage, hope, and faith. Despite years of multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, hospital stays, and endless doctor visits, he never complained and was at peace with his fate. He lived each day like it was his last, full of life and joy, always putting his loved ones before him.
Jose lived an admirable life, full of authenticity, integrity, responsibility, resilience, joy, laughter, and love. He wasn’t afraid to be himself and although he was misunderstood by some, he was beloved by so many. He was a people person, so charismatic, kind, thoughtful, and loving.
Jose was always up for an adventure and trying new things, he loved taking risks and making memories of a lifetime. He was an avid sports fan who took pleasure in playing and watching sports. He loved reliving his high school football days with his friends and former teammates, and cherished his Mayfair High CIF Football Championship ring. His favorite teams were his “home teams” the San Diego Chargers until they moved to LA, then the Las Vegas Raiders because the enemy of his enemy is his friend, the Clippers because they were originally from San Diego, and the Padres. He enjoyed tailgating before a game and visiting stadiums throughout the nation. He loved to travel with his wife, family, and friends. Some of his favorite trips were to Las Vegas; cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, and Mexico; Paris, France; Gathering of Wolves; and all trips big or small. He appreciated the camaraderie of gambling at a Black Jack or Craps table, and the thrill of Roulette. Most of all, he loved making memories with his wife; having fun, being silly, making her laugh and sometimes angry or cry, creeping up and scaring her, and just loving each other sharing a BIG HUG!
Thank you to everyone who provided him with love, support, prayers, friendship, and joy during his lifetime. Let the memories you made with Jose live on in your hearts and mind. If you ever need some cheering up, a laugh or smile, think of Jose, you’re sure to remember something he did or said that will brighten your day! #KFG
