Barbara A. Corey was born Barbara Ann Weiss to Helen Elizabeth (Power) Weiss and Noel Weiss, a World War 1 Veteran, in Los Angeles, California during the Great Depression.
When Barbara was five years old her father passed away. Barbara and her sister, Dorothy, were raised by their single, working Mother. They lived in Southwest Los Angeles. Barbara graduated from George Washington High School in 1951.
Barbara used her artistic talents working as an Interior Decorator for many years. She was married briefly to Harry Gordon.
In 1964 she married Jack Corey, a veteran of W.W. II, who saw action on Iwo Jima. She welcomed his daughters from a previous marriage, Theresa and Anita.
Barbara and Jack lived in Corona Del Mar for many years in a duplex, next door to her mother, and were able to assist her after she retired. Years later, Barbara and Jack moved to Cambria, on the California coast, where they enjoyed the coastal climate. It was in Cambria that Barbara and Jack would celebrate 25 years of Marriage.
After Jack's passing, Barbara moved to Pacific Grove California for a brief period. Barbara then moved to Carlsbad, California again a costal climate. She lived in Carlsbad until 2018 when she moved to Oakmont of Escondido, California. She lived the last year of her life at a Hospice Home in Escondido, where she passed away on August 15, 2024.
Her sister Dorothy happily remembers the trip the two of them made together in 1993 to County Kerry, Ireland, for a family Reunion to meet the remaining Power and Dillon families who didn't immigrate to America. After the reunion they continued their trip through Scotland and England.
Barbara will be remembered for her sweet temperament and strong will to overcome many of the health challenges she faced in her later years.
Barbara leaves behind a loving sister Dorothy, Her daughters Theresa and Anita, her sons in law, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great great grandchild, Nieces and Nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
The family would also like to say how grateful we are to the many caregivers Barbara has had over the last couple of years. They were truly a godsend to Barbara and the family.
The family will have a private gathering later this year. At this time there will be no service.
We wish that no flowers be sent and that you take a moment to hug those who are dearest to you. That is the best way to remember Barbara
