Manuel was born in Santa Cruz das Ribeiras, Pico, Azores on January 27, 1934 to Leucadia and Manuel Silveira Soares.
Manuel came to the United States at age 14, accompanied by Captain Joe Medina. At age 15, he began his successful career in the commercial tuna fishing industry. He worked in the industry for 32 years. He also held a Merchant Marine license.
Manuel proudly served his country for 2 years in the United States Army. He received his artillery training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and was stationed in Germany.
Manuel is survived by his loving wife, Humberta M. Soares, his two sons, Gilbert Soares and Richard Soares, and his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Soares (Richard’s wife).
A Catholic mass and funeral will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, 4470 Hilltop Drive, San Diego, CA on December 6, 2024 at 12:00 (noon).
