Deborah “Debbie” Eileen Maddock (née Cook) passed away suddenly on June 26, 2017. She was born in Los Angeles, California on March 4, 1949 to Harold Ward Cook, Jr. and Rosemary Irene Cook. Debbie spent her youth in Upland, California, growing up in the family home located on Euclid Avenue. She graduated from Upland High School in 1967, where she was a member of the Highlanders Drill Team. Debbie attended the University of La Verne, receiving a paralegal certificate. Debbie was a long-time employee for the City of Ontario, working in the Personnel Department as well as the Ontario Police department. Debbie was an active member of the Sierra Club and enjoyed hiking, and a life-long member of Christ Church in Ontario. After retirement, Debbie moved to Encinitas, California, where she was a member of the landscaping committee at High County Villas. Debbie was a kind, gregarious and generous spirit. She went out of her way to say “hello” to everyone she met, and she kept a box of various greeting cards in her desk to send out to her family and friends for just about every occasion. She always made you feel special. Upon hearing of her death, her own doctor said his practice “wouldn’t be the same” without Debbie’s warm smile and greeting. Debbie is preceded in death by her beloved son, Adam Ward Frey, and by her precious pets, Steve and Ilsa. She is survived by her husband, Roy Maddock, her father, Harold W. Cook, Jr., her mother, Rosemary Terplan, brothers Walter Cook and James (Lily) Cook, sister Amy (Craig) Williams, stepdaughter JoAnn (John) Lawless, stepson Tony (Megan ) Maddock, and by her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating Debbie will be held in August. Please email [email protected] for additional information regarding the service.
