Lucille P. Murray, a longtime resident of Palmetto, Fla., was born in Georgia March 18, 1918 and died at home January 14, 2015 after a long, full life. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger M. Murray, sons Donald O. Murray and Ralph P. Murray; granddaughter Dorothy (Diaz) Frick. She is survived by son Roger (Gail) Murray, Riverside, Calif.; daughter Madelon (Charles) Diaz, Palmetto; daughter-in-law Barbara R. Murray, Bradenton; stepdaughter Jo Anne (Murray) Burleigh, Palm Harbor, FL; sister-in-law Molly D. Purvis, Havanna, FL. She has 9 grandchildren, 6 stepgrandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren & 15 step great-grandchildren, 1 step great-great grandchild….all of whom have happy memories of their "Grandma Lou". A host of nieces and nephews and countless friends also cherish fond memories of Lucille. Mrs. Murray was very active in the community serving in the Palmetto Garden Club; as a sustaining member of the Junior League; as an original member of The Collectors. Of all her activities, flower arranging was her greatest joy and talent, which she shared generously with family, special events for friends; as a teacher; as flower show Judge. In later years, she was an inveterate traveler with her husband or with her many adventurous friends. Not only to attend grandchildren events everywhere, including Germany & Italy; but to visit England, Ireland & Scotland; a train trek to see flower exhibitions in Canada or similar things in England; took many cruises, including Alaska, Panama Canal & Baltic Sea; visited China; did a safari in Kenya; rode elephants in India and even more courageously, helped lead high school students on tours of France! A graveside "Final Good-by Celebration" for family and friends will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 23 at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Ave. E, Ellenton, FL 34222.
