George Albert Tedesco

George Tedesco, 91, of Parrish, FL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 4, 2014. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 25 years, a sister-in-law, Bonnie Petersen, of Parrish, FL, a sister-in-law, Norma (Richard) Colt of San Diego, CA. Mr. & Mrs. Theodore Tedesco (nephew) and family of Grosse Pointe, MI and nieces and nephews in CA., AZ and NV. George is the last surviving member of the Salvatore Tedesco family. His parents immigrated from Florence, Italy and San Giovani, Calabria to settle in the United States. George was born in Los Angeles, CA; he was raised and educated in Detroit, Michigan, along with eight brothers and one sister. George's early business career began as director of Advertising and promotion for the News-Dispatch Daily Newspaper in northern Indiana. He was an active participant in the growth and economic development of Michigan City, IN and surrounding communities. He was a member of Long Beach Golf and Country Club. In 1963 George was appointed as corporate assistant vice - president of public relations for the Pullman Standard Division of Pullman Inc. based in Chicago, IL. Later he was appointed vice - president of marketing administration for the Trail Mobile Division of the Corporation. In latter 1975 he took early retirement from Pullman to join a Financial Railcar Leasing Firm (PLM) Headquartered in San Francisco as vice president of marketing, his office based in Chicago, IL. He was also senior vice president of marketing for the Railcar Maintenance Company and later appointed to the Board of Directors of Transcisco formerly PLM. In 1980 the company became engaged in international leasing of oil - transporting railcars from Russia to export parts, Transcisco Trading Co. was formed to attend to these overseas operations, and George was president of this new enterprise. With partners from Finland and Russia a joint venture co. was formed (Sovfinamtrans) and became owner and lessor of six thousand railroad tank cars within and out of Russia. In early 1990 Trinity Industries a long established railcar building company purchased Transcisco Industries and subsidiaries. George served Trinity Industries as consultant to the Russian operation; in 1995 he retired from corporate and returned to the private business sector until officially retiring in 2008. George and Dorothy are longtime members of the River Wilderness Golf and Country Club, Parrish Community and Bethany Union Church, Chicago, IL. George truly loved the game of golf. His favorite courses were Augusta, GA "The Old White" at The Green Brier, White Sulphur Springs West Virginia) and Pebble Beach, CA. Dorothy and George enjoyed traveling the world together. They were in the Financial District of San Francisco when the earthquake of 1989 struck, Athens Greece when 911 impacted their cruise itinerary, and life as we once knew. George was a loyal husband, A Father figure to Dorothy's children, Scott and Linda Mains & family and a constant friend with a lot of "Spark and Bark." Visitation will be at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, Ellenton, FL 34222 Saturday, October 18, 2014 2:00pm with funeral service to follow at 3pm. In lieu of flowers you may remember George or a loved one by supporting the Sarasota-Manatee "First Tee" Organization established for youth golf.
