Delores Carol Young

Delores Carol Young, 94, of Nokomis, passed away on August 28, 2024 after a long and blessed life. Delores was born on February 24, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her parents were Bruce and Lola Babbs. She married Andrew Jackson Young March 23rd, 1957 and divorced in 1983. They had four children, Nancy Gardner (Jerry) of North Carolina, Daniel Young (Sandy Pardue) of Bradenton, Florida, Joe Young (Ambyr Young) of Palmetto, Florida, and Teresa Lindsay, (Mark Hollfelder) of Nokomis, Florida. Delores, Andy and the family moved to Bradenton, Florida from Indiana in 1972. She was able to live on her own until in January she moved in with her daughter, Teresa.

Delores worked several jobs including some of her favorites being custodian at Bradenton First Church of the Nazarene for 12 years, and she taught preschool for 10 years at Hope Lutheran Preschool.

Her greatest joy came from her eight grandchildren, Lindsey, Jeramy, Amanda, Erin, Shane, Christopher, Kayla, Stephen, and her 13 great grandchildren. Her family and her faith were an intricate part of her life. She was an active member of Bradenton First Church of the Nazarene (now Gulf Coast Church) and participated in many activities. She loved teaching 5th grade girls Sunday School for 10 years, Wednesday night Caravan, she was a sponsor and chaperone on 8 New Destiny Singers Youth Choir tours, and a Mission trip to Ecuador. She later on traveled many places with the Senior Adults including Hawaii and Canada. She made many memories and great friendships.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her 9 brothers and sisters and is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her humor, kindness, independent spirit, along with her stubbornness and ‘Grandma-isms’ will be remembered lovingly by her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tidewell Hospice.

A visitation for Delores will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, FL 34222. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, FL 34222. A graveside service will occur Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 1:30 PM, 1400 36th Ave E, Ellenton, FL 34222.
