was 65 years old.
Born in Baltimore to the late Donald J. and Anna E. (nee Goldstraw) Koch, Tom was a 1972
graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School. In 1999, Tom earned a Bachelor of Science in
Business Administration from Coker College where he graduated with Cum Laude honors. After
working as an electrician for many years, Tom followed his calling by pursuing a career in
nursing in 2008, and continued to work as a registered nurse until his passing.
Tom was passionate about politics, the Baltimore Ravens, Maryland Terrapin basketball, and
the Baltimore Orioles.
He is survived by his beloved children, Melanie K. Alt and her husband, John, and Megan N.
Koch, and his grandchildren, John “Jack” Alt and Mary-Katharine Alt. He was affectionately
known as Opa by his grandchildren; they were his pride and joy.
Tom is also survived by his loving companion, Mary Speigel, with whom he enjoyed traveling,
attending concerts and Myrtle Beach Pelican games, and spoiling their chihuahua, Harley.
Additionally, Tom is survived by his cherished siblings Donald, Terri, and Cynthia, as well as
many nieces, nephews, cousins, and the Blickenstaff family.
Tom will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, kind spirit, and infectious smile.
