Edna Theresa M. Davis, age 102, of Laurel, Maryland passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 after a brief illness.
Edna was born on November 23, 1919 in Albany, NY. She graduated from St. John’s Academy in Rensselaer, NY in 1937 and came to Washington, DC when she was 21 to start a career with the federal government that spanned over 5 decades.
Edna was a born storyteller and often regaled friends and family with fascinating stories of her work during World War 2, which included working for the Commander of a POW Camp in Brady, Texas where 3,000 German prisoners were detained.
Edna spent her summers in Ocean City, Maryland where, right up to the age of 99, she walked to the community pool to swim her daily laps and socialize with her many friends. She never met a stranger. She worked hard and was very disciplined but would never miss a party or social event. Never intimidated by modern technology, she began using computers in her 80s and enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and family through emails and social media until her eyesight faded in her late 90s. She loved to sing and dance and laugh and lived life to the fullest.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mary Agnes (Skeals) Murphy, her husband of 44 years Collin P. Davis, son William Merritt, two sisters, Mary Irene Murphy and Alice M. Hilton, and a brother Edward Francis Murphy. Survivors include two children, Gary (Pamela) Davis of Elkridge, and Diane (Kernie) Harkleroad of Annapolis and four grandchildren, Shane Harkleroad of Edgewater, Patrick (Casey) Harkleroad of San Diego, California, Colin (Savannah) Harkleroad of Navarre, Florida, and Theresa Harkleroad of Annapolis, as well as three great-grandchildren.
