Richard Wayne Pascoe died May 13, 2019, in Bellaire, Michigan. Richard was born March 21, 1931 to William and Agnes (Pavek) Pascoe, in Traverse City, Michigan. He was the youngest of three children, with siblings William and Evelyn (Kline) Pascoe. He spent the majority of his life in his hometown of Elk Rapids, Michigan where he graduated high school. Upon graduation he joined the United States Army in February of 1952. In recognition of his service he was awarded the Korean Service Ribbon, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Following his service, Richard attended Northern Michigan College where he earned his Associate’s degree. (1957) He then attended Aquinas College earning his Bachelor's degree and finally finished at the University of Michigan where he received his Master’s degree in Education. Richard had a passion for education, teaching multiple languages, including Latin, German, and French at Northern Michigan College from 1966-1988. When he wasn’t teaching he was traveling. Richard was an avid explorer, spending winters in the south of France and summers on Mackinaw Island- he had fond memories sitting on the deck of the Murray Hotel as well as biking around the Island.
Later in life, Richard thoroughly enjoyed spending his days at T.J. Charlies. John and Denise Heeke created a “second home” for him there at their restaurant. On any given day, you could find him completing a crossword puzzle, reading a book, or heckling local’s and staff. He was a fixture at the restaurant and will be sorely missed. Richard was a devout Catholic who loved attending the Latin Mass at Sacred Heart Church of Mancelona for many years.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents William and Agnes Pascoe, and both of his siblings William and Evelyn. Richard is survived by his loyal and trusted friend Zachary Petoskey, who has been his caregiver for the past five years. Joyce and Mary Jo Pavek of Mason City, Iowa.Nephew, Will Kline of Casablanca Grande, Arizona. John and Denise Heeke, along with the rest of the staff at T.J. Charlies. Sam Chile, Father Weber of Sacred Heart Church of Mancelona and Susan Middleton of Mancelona.
