He was a native of West Jefferson, NC and graduated in 1952 from Beaver Creek High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served from 1954 to 1958. After honorable discharge, he returned home to West Jefferson before moving to Elizabethtown in 1959 for work. He worked construction before starting at Dow Corning and retired from Bowman Distribution.
He married Anita Ruth Bush on July 8, 1960 at Tunnel Hill Baptist Church where he joined the church as a member by movement of his letter on September 20, 1959. He was ordained as Deacon on September 13, 1970 and Deacon Emeritus on October 2, 2011.
Bill was preceded in death by his Father, John Fred Goodman; his mother, Ruby Hopkins Goodman; step mother, Molly Goodman; sister, Lois Tress and brother, Kenneth Goodman.
Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Ruth Goodman; two sons, William Dane Goodman (Tina) of Bardstown and Jeremy Bush Goodman (Donna) of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren, Jessica Garner, Jarrett Goodman and Jenna Goodman all of Elizabethtown and Chandra Hornback of Louisville; one great-grandson, Jayden Garner of Elizabethtown; brother, Wayne Goodman (Toni) of Essex, MD; aunt, Gwen Lewis of West Jefferson, NC and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Tunnel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Looten and Rev. Nathan Whisnatt officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home and continue from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
Pallbearers will be Jarrett Goodman, Josh Dingess, Kevin Dingess, Eric Marsh, Timmy Marsh and Chad Marsh.
