Martha graduated from 8th grade at Millville School, and high school at Versailles High School as Salutatorian in 1943. She went on to graduate from Georgetown College with a bachelors Cum Laude in 1949. She went on to get her MA from the University of Kentucky in 1965. She was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church where she taught adult bible study for a number of years there.
In her career Martha taught at Oneida Baptist Institute for 12 years and founded the Baptist Student Union there on the high school level. She also taught at other high schools in Kentucky and Ohio. She finished her career teaching 22 years at Elizabethtown Community College and became a Kentucky Colonel.
She was preceded in passing by her husband, Guy Wilson Rice, Jr.; grandparents, C.C. Bain and Fannie Sutherland; parents, Eldred and Annabel Bain; a brother, Corporal Eldred Bain Jr., U.S.M.C; two sisters, Virginia Ann Bain and Alice Mae Turner; stepson, Thomas E. Rice; two brothers-in-law, Forrest Turner, Sr., and Edwin Rice; sister-in-law, Nancy Watkins Rice.
Martha is survived by three stepchildren, Steven Brooks Rice (Susan), Sarah Ann Morehead (Robert), Carol Lynn Beasley (Gary); three nephews, Forrest Turner Jr. (Patsy), Ronald David Turner (Nancy), Charles Cecil Turner; two nieces, Jean Hatfield and Anita Gail Baker; eight grandsons; sixteen great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Marthas life will be held on Friday, May 24, at 12 PM, at the Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, KY. Family and friends are invited to visit from 10 AM to 12 PM on Friday at the Funeral Home. Martha will be laid to rest following the service at Versailles Cemetery in Versailles Kentucky.
