Marilyn Faye Nelson Smith, passed away on September 11, 2024. She was born March 27, 1945, in Tunnel Hill, Hardin County, Kentucky, to William Jennings Nelson and Virginia Hodges Nelson. Her first year of school was spent at Tunnel Hill Elementary School, the last year for one-room schools in Hardin County. She was in the first graduating class of East Hardin High School and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in English and Sociology from Campbellsville College.
For several years she resided in Midland, Michigan, where she served as a church secretary, while her husband was employed by the Dow Corning Corporation. She was a long-time member of Severns Valley Baptist Church, where she delighted in helping with Vacation Bible School and participating in the Sr. Adult Ministry. Marilyn retired from the Hardin County School System where she loved her students. She always had an intense interest in music and fiber arts, especially harps, pipe organs, quilting, and knitting.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Schuyler Smith; and sister-in-law, Carla Nelson.
She is survived by her brother, Weller Nelson; his daughters, Stephanie Campbell (Brad) and Stacey Woodward (Larry); their children, Baylee Chesser (Kobe) and Mason Campbell, Kayla and Evan Woodward; and special cousins, Alice Ann Hagan and Forrest Nelson. Also surviving is a step-son, Gary Smith and his family in Michigan.
Her celebration of life will be led by Rev. Emory Riley at Brown Funeral Home on Saturday, September 14, at 1 PM, at Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service at 1 PM. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Severns Valley Baptist Church, Hosparus of Central Kentucky, or James G. Brown Cancer Center.
