Madonna "Donna" M. Thompson

Madonna (Donna) Mary (Moyer) Thompson, 89, of Elizabethtown, KY, peacefully passed away and went to her Eternal Reward with family holding her hand at 12:56 AM Friday, December 6, 2024 at Peridot Senior Living, Elizabethtown, KY. Donna was born January 3, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles (Skip) Thompson; her parents Julia and Thomas Moyer; and her sister-in-law, Donna Moyer.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Amy (Martin) Preen of Elizabethtown, KY and Terry Thompson (Todd Reed) of St. Joseph, IL; and four grandchildren, Macy Reed, Zachary Preen, Annabelle Preen, and Toby Reed. She is also survived by her siblings, Julia (Tom) May of Elk Grove, IL, Tim (Dee) Moyer of Hoffman Estates, IL, Dorie (Rene) Pittsey of Santa Clara, CA, Tom Moyer of El Dorado Hills, CA, Dave (Terry) Moyer of Waukegan, IL, Mary (Mark) Moyer-Barrett of Park Ridge, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Donna entered the convent right out of high school, became a registered nurse, and was a member of the Sisters of Charity of Mother Seton, Mt. Saint Joseph, Ohio for 17 years. She specialized in psychiatric nursing until she retired in 1996.

Donna was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Urbana, IL and served as eucharistic minister. She volunteered by delivering meals on wheels and assisting caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients. She loved caring for and spending time with her family. Her delicious regular Sunday dinners and holiday meals were cherished. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and sewing.

She was a kind, gentle, and compassionate soul, and was always selfless and sacrificing. She cared for all living things, was generous and thoughtful. She exhibited humility and was the ultimate role model. Mom/Gramma you are already dearly missed.

Catholic Service will be at St. James Catholic Church, Elizabethtown, KY on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 12 noon. Please join the family immediately after the service in Batcheldor Hall next to the church. A celebration of life will be held in 2025 in Park Ridge, IL.

Donations to St. James Catholic Church are encouraged in lieu of flowers.
