Jim spent his career as Director of Meat Operations at Houchens for 47 years. He was a graduate of Larue County High School and a member of New Hope Community Church.
He was long time knife collector and avid UK fan. He will be so greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Rayetta Barnes; sons, James Barnes, Doug Gault (Lynne), and Craig Gault (Brenda); grandchildren, Dylan Barnes (Whitney), Austin (Allison) Barnes, Danielle Barnes, Shelbi Barnes, Cody Gault, Jason Key, and Kelsey (Phillip) French; great-grandchildren, Oliver Barnes, Leland Cottrell, Willow Barnes, Margot Barnes, Aria Barnes, Emilia Barnes, Ryder Barnes and Maelia Barnes; brother, Louis Barnes (Karen); daughter in law, Karen Barnes; and granddaughter in law, Shelbi Barnes.
Jim was preceded in passing by his parents; his son, Aaron Barnes; grandson, Christian Barnes; brothers, Gilbert Barnes, Ben Barnes, and Ed Barnes (Donna).
A service to honor Jim’s life will be held on Monday, August 26th, at 11 AM, at New Hope Community Church. Guests are invited to attend visitation on Sunday, August 25th, from 3 PM – 7 PM, at the church. He will be laid to rest at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens following the service.
